"Areas for Improvement"
I sent this email a few days back.
Hey there,
I'm Tamir from Israel. Recently, I signed up for your platform.
I’m using it to sharpen my skills in Python. First off, I gotta say it’s a solid concept, and I believe it’s helping me reach my goals.
However, I can’t overlook some pretty serious problems that need fixing:
1. After I subscribed, I got a pop-up offering a better price (not a huge deal, but it kinda rubbed me the wrong way).
2. On one of the challenges I attempted, I accidentally submitted my code. It wasn’t ready and had a few syntax errors. Yet, I still got a congratulatory message for finishing a medium task in under 4 minutes (or maybe 7, I’m not sure).
3. Today, I tackled some really cool challenges, and after finishing, I wanted to check out other solutions (this is a great feature). But then I noticed a solution with a score of 10 points that was actually incorrect. I feel like that shouldn’t be the case. I know you have a set of 10 test cases, so I’m puzzled about how that slipped through.

"This site is fantastic... totally worth it!"
Every morning, I tackle a challenge and can't think of a better way to kick off the day.
A big chunk of my work life revolves around software management or dealing with pesky bugs. It's a real delight to dive into a straightforward coding task each day.
Plus, I really enjoy checking out how my solutions stack up against others. It's such a cool (and enlightening) experience to see the various ways people think through the same issue.
"Clarity Issues with Assessment Timer"
The introductory pages and Candidate Guide for the assessment don’t clearly indicate when the timer kicks off. There are multiple pages that need to be reviewed thoroughly without any rush. It would be helpful to have big, bold notices saying "Timer hasn’t started yet" on those pages.
The rules around copy and paste are also pretty vague. Can you copy from the code you’ve already typed? What about taking text from the instructions to the code? And can you grab written code from the code window and paste it somewhere else?
Lastly, I haven’t worked with a lot of the languages, but the challenges begin with the phrase "output logs will appear here." However, there’s no way to log in C# without using Console.WriteLine, which you have to remove before you submit. There ought to be a method to include logging that stays in the final submission (and isn’t just commented out).

"Unfair Assessment Practices in Freelance Hiring"
Here's the deal: I went for some freelance gigs involving reactjs, php, mysql, and wp, but ended up sitting through a grueling 4-hour test with 8 tough questions, none of which related to my actual work.
When you set up an assessment, there ought to be a clear purpose:
1. If someone’s applying for a role in php or mysql, then they should be evaluated on those skills, right?
2. If the focus is all on computer science concepts like algorithms, data structures, and math, then candidates should be informed ahead of time. We’re in web development, and honestly, we don’t reinvent the wheel unless absolutely necessary. We’ve got a bunch of tried-and-true algorithms and typically use less than 10% of what’s out there. Developers lean on CMS, templates, boilerplates, and proven solutions, and only occasionally dive into core modules that need fresh designs or performance tweaks.
3. Ever notice that universities separate IT and CS into different modules? There’s a reason for that.
I’m not saying that computer science knowledge is pointless, but my main point is to assess fairly and communicate clearly. Don’t push candidates away just to get them to buy into your premium services.
If you think I’m off base, feel free to reach out and chat. The last time I spent hours on algorithms and data structures was back in my third year of college. Nowadays, I’m juggling multiple projects for various clients, so why should I be tested on stuff I’ve moved past and don’t use anymore?

"Incredibly helpful and enjoyable"
I’m really blown away by how beneficial Coderbyte is. When you stack it up against other sites, you can’t really compare your code or get the chance to learn coding in such a fun and engaging manner.

"Awesome Collection of Algorithms"
I truly enjoyed the extensive range of "challenges" offered by Coderbyte Premium, along with the review videos and the chance to view solutions from other users. These features really helped me brush up on my algorithm knowledge, and I found the whole experience to be super engaging.
I highly recommend that folks use the web browser for all their editing and testing needs. When I tried practicing with a laptop editor and then copying the code into the browser, I got hit with a surprising and annoying "do not copy/paste" warning during the assessment. Getting two "matrix"-focused challenges during the test made it really tempting to copy/paste! Plus, the web app didn’t register the "command-S" keystrokes, which I kept hitting out of habit while refining my solution.
Overall, a fantastic product!

"Decent product, but there's room for improvement"
All in all, it's a decent product. There are a few areas that could use some work:
1) It would be great to have more coding tutorials, especially videos or white papers, focusing on the tougher problems. This could really boost job seekers' coding abilities.
2) According to the stats, over 30% of participants solve many tough problems in under 10 minutes. Is that really the case? Or is it just because the challenges are being repeated?
3) The coding tests aren't fully comprehensive. You can score high on some challenges even with flawed code.
